About Me

Hello!

Hello! My name is Angelica Martinez. I’m a 25-year-old, queer, Latina, LA-based writer, editor, and all-around pop culture enthusiast. I’ve had the privilege of writing for BuzzFeed for almost five years now, working my way from a lil baby editorial fellow to an associate editor and Latine Cultural Lead. I’ve done a bit of everything in my time there, from quiz writing to award show coverage. Currently, I’m a predominantly evergreen writer and run BuzzFeed’s Latine-focused sponsorships.

Prior to moving to LA, I spent a couple of incredible years in NYC studying politics and creative writing at New York University, getting as many standing-room-only Broadway tickets as my budget would allow, and falling in love with going to SNL tapings and live comedy sets. I chose to focus my political science studies on polling data, voting trends, and grassroots campaigns, cementing my fascination with what makes people — whether they’re voters or an audience of readers — tick. As a lifelong bookworm and notes app prose writer, I originally set off on a fiction-forward path in my creative writing program, but quickly fell head-over-heels in love with creative nonfiction and journalism. I started freelancing soon after — with bylines in Newsday and POPSUGAR — and have been writing up a storm ever since.

When I’m not working or acting as the unofficial PopCrave of my group chat, I can often be found baking, crocheting, going to way too many concerts, listening to a true crime podcast, watching reality TV (I’m obsessed with The Traitors rn!), collecting vinyls, singing along to Taylor Swift (I’m a Reputation/Evermore girlie, in case you were wondering), or hanging out with my cat, Karma.

As thanks for reading this whole long ‘ole thing, here are some photos of my little furry trash goblin.
